In the summer of 1985 we began to plan the filming of what would be called Seaside Treats. Tim had already shot a load of bizarre material on VHS cameras which would form the basis of "The Consultants Flower Garden", the 10 minute introduction to the video and some of which (the more disgusting bits) would be used in the musical section itself. The Consultant found us a location which we could use for one weekend - the Overground Theatre in Kingston - just round the corner from where Tim and Sarah were living. |

Because we were doing a made up "Film and Video" course at college (what would now be called Media Studies!) we managed to work the whole idea into our coursework. We blagged the college's only two "professional" cameras (a couple of JVC KY2000's in bright orange) a couple of redhead lights and a couple of tripods and headed up to South London in my old Renault 12 estate car dragging Pete Sylvester, a college freind and musician, along as runner, clapper loader, camera assistant and whatever else. |

We met Tim at his house and then went straight to the location. We knew which songs we were going to do, but had no idea about how we were going to film them. Luckily the Theatre was a godsend. Really atmospheric with all sorts of nooks and crannies, velvet curtains and old props that suited the Cardiacs' style perfectly. The Consultant had brought a smoke machine so we proceeded to fill the place up and set for the first song - Little Man and a House. |
