The Avid Xpress system is quite compact and portable and has been taken to Paris, Dubai and Rome but the latest investment has been to augment this with a truly portable system based around the stunning Apple Mac Powerbook Laptop, Firewire storage and the Avid Media Composer editing software. Designed mainly for offline work or for DV based programming importing DV/DVCAM straight from the camera. The interface is identical to the MediaComposerand projects can be seemlessly moved from one system to another for on-lining. The entire system fits in a backpack and follows me around wherever I go! |

Nick trained on 3 machine Hi-Band U-matic edit suites moving on quickly to the "new" Beta SP format. He began using the Ampex ACE25 edit controller and quickly mastered the Sony 910 and 2000 controllers. He was among the first to explore the possibilities of pre-read editing on early D2 machines, creating complex graphic sequences on a fairly basic system at a time when Harry was all the rage (and very expensive!) The move to non-linear editing came when Nick bought his own D-Vision non-linear editor. A simple, but effective off-line system based on an ordinary PC and many times cheaper than the then emerging Avid machines. The D-Vision was very well suited to long-form documentaries and was still doing stirling service until a few years ago. In the meantime as a freelance editor Nick got to know both Avid Media-Composer and Media100 as well as Sony DigiBeta linear suites. His work now consists mostly of doing both off-line and on-line on Avid and Media100 with graphics, special effects and Title sequences completed on Boris FX and AfterFX
